The MITEC project brings together the efforts of the Medical University – Pleven, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, the “Open Hand” Foundation, and ARoTT Romania to address challenges in the field of medical education and healthcare in the Romania–Bulgaria cross-border region.
The area faces several key challenges – a shortage of medical specialists, limited access to high-quality educational resources and technologies, and a lack of modern training methods for medical professionals.
The two medical universities are the only ones in the cross-border region and are well aware of the specific needs and challenges of medical education. They are joining forces to create synergy between medical training and healthcare practice.
The Medical University of Pleven excels in neurosurgery and ENT specialties, while the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova is strong in gastroenterology. In these three fields, the two universities will cooperate to achieve positive change through cross-border collaboration.
The main objective of MITEC is to improve the quality of medical education and training for students and trainees by implementing modern imaging and telemedicine technologies.
Key project activities:
- Establishment of a telemedicine training room;
- Development of learning materials and programs;
- Training and development of personnel.
Expected results include:
- improving the qualifications and skills of medical professionals;
- expanding access to high-quality learning resources;
- enhancing the quality of healthcare services in remote areas.
The project will establish a modernly equipped telemedicine classroom, develop multimedia learning resources in neurosurgery, ENT, and gastroenterology, conduct a pilot training with 20 students (10 from Bulgaria and 10 from Romania), and organize events for knowledge and experience exchange between specialists and students.
The integration of resources and expertise between the two universities represents an innovative approach that will enhance training effectiveness and healthcare quality.
For the first time in their history, the two medical universities will collaborate in such a way, introducing modern telemedicine technologies for educational purposes.
MITEC aims to create better conditions for medical education and professional development, leading to higher-quality healthcare services and improved patient care in the cross-border region.
