Medical University - Pleven Introduces the First Virtual Anatomy Laboratory with Augmented Reality

The Medical University - Pleven (MU-Pleven) is the first higher education institution to implement a virtual laboratory for anatomy training using Augmented and Mixed Reality technologies. The new system features 20 headsets through which students can explore the human body in detail.
The laboratory provides access to over 13,000 anatomical structures with detailed descriptions, supporting a profound understanding of all body systems. Various modes are included, such as Augmented and Virtual Reality, including micro-models of muscle fibers, blood vessels, and tissues.
The system offers a mode for collaborative real-time classes and lectures with up to 100 participants. Furthermore, it allows connectivity with imaging diagnostics and provides opportunities for training students on real clinical cases, as well as for preoperative preparation of doctors.
The platform also contains highly realistic 3D models of all anatomical systems—skeletal, muscular, nervous, vascular, organs, microanatomy, and more. Tests with automatic grading and statistical analysis are integrated for the trainees. The use of Augmented and Virtual Reality increases student engagement and allows them to master human anatomy significantly faster and easier.
