Registration for Next Academic Year, Tuition Fees-deadlines
All students are registered at the beginning of each academic year/semester according a deadline set by the Rector.
Students must pay an annual fee for their education. For full-time training subjects the fee must be paid in equal installments not later than two weeks after the beginning of each semester. In the event that students pay fees with a loan the deadline may be up to one month after the beginning of the semester. No refund shall be made to a student who suspends his/her studies or withdraws from the University.
Students who have not paid the fee within the prescribed period interrupt their studies for financial reasons.
Students registered at their own expense, conclude an individual contract with MU-Pleven.

SEMESTER CERTIFICATION, EXAMINATION SESSIONS AND STUDENT STATUS
All classes (lectures, practical exercises, seminars) aremandatory.
Students can be granted authorized absence due to acceptable reasons (i.e. prolonged illness), but not more than 25 school days during an academic year.
Students are required to make up all work missed due to an authorized absence provided that they receive permission by the Dean after submitting a request form not later than 3 school days after the last absence and after submitting a medical certificate issued by a medical doctor. The University Doctor must attest the medical certificates. It is expected that students would be able to complete makeup missed classes within two weeks after the authorized absences. In cases of unauthorized absence student status is determined by the Dean. If the medical certificate has been issued in another country it must be translated and legalized pursuant to the regulations for translations, attestations and legalization.
Students can be granted an authorized absence by the Dean in order to participate in sport or other organized activities and they are required to make up missed classes within two weeks after the authorized absence.
Students are required to make up all work missed due to an unauthorized absence within two weeks after the absence according to individual schedules and after an additional payment has been made .
Students failing to make up their missed classes will not get the assistant professor’s and/or the professor’s signature for the subject and interrupt their studies by reason of not certification of semester.
Students failing to attend more than 20 percent of lectures from a subject will not get the assistant professor’s and/or the professor’s signature for the subject and interrupt their studies by reason of not certification of semester.
Examination sessions are organized and held pursuant to the Higher Education Law. During the academic year two regular examination sessions are scheduled at the end of each semester – a winter and a summer one; two supplementary sessions are held immediately after the regular ones, and a liquidation session is held in September/February prior to the beginning of the next academic year for students with maximum three poor marks.
Students take part in an examination session provided that they have the respective semester certified.
Sitting for an examination for one discipline is permitted only once for each session.
Certification of semesters is made by the Dean provided that a student has obtained the signatures of all Professors and Assistant Professors in the respective disciplines duringthe last week of the semester.
The Dean can certify administratively the semester only once in the whole course of study if a student has not obtained a Professor’s signature for the respective discipline.
Students are allowed to sit for an examination provided that they are enlisted in the examination protocols issued by the Student Offices of the Faculties.
In cases when the Dean has granted permission to a student to sit an examination individually - out of the student’s group or out of session time as an exception - the Student Offices issue an individual examination protocol.
Students are allowed to attend supplementary examination session with unlimited number of examinations to sit for, but they can participate in the liquidation session in September/February with not more than three poor marks. As an exception, the Rector or the Dean could grant permission to a student having more than three unpassed examinations to attend the liquidation session. For the fourth and each following examination a student is to pay an extra examination fee, the amount of which is determined by the Academic council.
Students from 1st to 4th year inclusive who have not completed the semester i.e. have four or more examinations unpassed, repeat the semester for poor academic achievements. Students who have already had one repeat for poor achievements are permanently suspended.
Students from 1st to 4th year inclusive with one examination unpassed after the end of the liquidation session may be assigned the grade of conditional Pass for next academic year.
Thedeferredexaminationshouldbetaken till the end of next academic year according to the curriculum (i.e. during winter or summer session when there is a fixed examination date in the respective discipline). In case of a failure students repeat the year according to the curriculum paying an additional fee fixed proportionally to the number of hours of the respective discipline.
Students who have not completed the semester and who have two or more examinations unpassed after the end of the liquidation session repeat the year for poor academic achievements or are permanently suspended if they have already had one repeat for poor achievements.
Students in their final year of studies (before internship) who have examinations left after the end of the liquidation session have the right to re-sit examinations monthly till the end of winter semester after paying an examination fee determined by the Academic council. In case of unpassed examinations students repeat the year for poor academic achievements.
Student status should be determined definitively not later than October 15 for students studying in Bulgarian and March 15 for students studying in English.
Each student has the right to re-sit an examination only once in each discipline in order to correct his/ her mark from a successfully passed semester examination renouncing the mark beforehand with a request to the Head of the Basic unit (Dean/Director). This applies to every student (excluding internship/trainee students) during the regular, supplementary and September/February liquidation sessions. Trainee doctors can correct their mark from the state examinations during the internship sitting the exam with another trainee student group or during the final liquidation examination session.
The mark received at the re-sit examination is final.
REPEATING THE ACADEMIC YEAR AND INTERRUPTION OF STUDIES
Students who repeat by reason of non cetrtification of a semester attend all classes for the subjects studied during the respective semester.
Students repeating by reason of poor achievements attend only the disciplines in which they have poor marks and after paying a tuition fee, the amount of which is determined proportionally according to the classes in the subjects in which they have got poor marks. The students have the right to re-sit these examinations during the regular, supplementary and liquidation sessions according to the curriculum.
Students are permitted to repeat or interrupt their studies by reason of not certification of semester or because of poor marks only once during the course of studies (except for the fifth year students). In case of another interruption or need to repeat a semester for the same reason, a student is being permanently suspended.
Interruption of studies on medical grounds is permitted by the Rector when suggested by the Dean/Director but only once during the course of study. Students with health problems having the right to interrupt their studies on medical grounds (certified with official documents) can do this for a period not longer than a year. Meanwhile they have the right to sit all examinations from the certified semesters according to the curriculum.
Interruption of studies on grounds of social, financial and family reasons is permitted only once during the course of study for maximum of two consecutive years. Exceptions are considered by the University Governing Body after being suggestedby the Head of the Basic unit and coordinated with the Vice-Rector of Education.
Each student must appear at theFaculty Dean’s Officeand the College Director’s Office within a week after the end of the liquidation session for his student status determination. After the above-mentioned deadline the student status is determined by the Dean/Director according to the current Regulations without the required presence of the student.
RETURN TO STUDY
Students who have dropped out of University may apply for readmission, but the application will be treated as a new application. Students who resume their studies will be charged the current annual fee plus 25 per cent of it.Students will restart the subjects they have failed following the current curriculum. Credit is retained for all courses that had been fully completed prior to the withdrawal.
PRACTICAL CLASSES (SUMMER SCHOOL PRACTICES)
MU-Pleven students are required to complete their internships according to the specialty curriculum. The training is at "D. Stransky " University Hospital in Pleven and other accredited public and private medical establishments, pharmacies, social institutions, etc.
Students are not allowed to have their internships by individual schedule and in two specialties simultaneously.
Students are not allowed to have their internship abroad, except in cases of its participating in European programs and inter-university agreements.
