The second phase of the innovative project "Center of Competence in Personalized Medicine, 3D and Telemedicine, Robotic-Assisted and Minimally Invasive Surgery" with European funding has been launched

1Poster CenterCompetence 2025Medical University – Pleven (MU-Pleven) is the lead partner in the project with grant BG16RFPR002-1.014-0002 for the upgrade and development of a “Center of Competence in Personalized Medicine, 3D and Telemedicine, Robotic-Assisted and Minimally Invasive Surgery”. The funds allocated under the “Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation” 2021 – 2027 Operational Program amount to 14,302,405.01 BGN. They will be implemented by MU-Pleven in partnership with the “Leonardo da Vinci” Association for Research and Innovation in Medicine, “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov” Medical University – Varna, the Institute of Robotics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Research Support. Within 60 months, until December 31, 2029, the partners will carry out the following main activities: research activity and dissemination of scientific results; construction and modernization of research infrastructures and equipment necessary for conducting scientific research; training and mobility of researchers.

The second phase of development of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Center of Competence aims to expand and upgrade scientific and technological resources, with an emphasis on the development of robotic systems, 3D technologies, genetic sequencing and telemedicine solutions. This will allow researchers and medical specialists to conduct high-quality scientific investigations and develop innovative methods for diagnostics and treatment. The expected contributions and results of the project implementation are of great importance for medical science and practice, and are expressed in: expanding the capacity for scientific research in personalized medicine and minimally invasive surgery; integration of new technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotic systems in medical practice; improving the qualifications of medical specialists through modern training programs and simulation technologies; strengthening international cooperation and participation in global scientific networks.

The new stage of development of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Center of Competence will strengthen the image of the Medical University – Pleven and its partners as an innovative and progressive center for training, scientific research and high technologies in medicine. The implementation of the planned activities will significantly contribute to the development of medical science and practice not only in Bulgaria, but also in the European Union.
