In the Hippocrates Hall of the Rectorate, Prof. Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov, Rector of MU-Pleven, and Eng. Olya Dimitrova, Chairperson of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, signed a memorandum of cooperation. This happened in the presence of representatives of the Academic Board of the University – Prof. Dr. Galya Stavreva, Vice-Rector for Research Activities, Prof. Dr. Mariela Kamburova, Head of the “Medicine for Health” Strategic Research and Innovation Development Program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Martin Karamanliev, Head of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Center of Competence, and Senior Asst. Prof. Hristo Dochev.
The Rector, Prof. Dr. D. Dimitrov, presented the University and its activities with the words: "We must be competitive and recognizable on the map of scientific research, which is why we invest and strive to be innovators with a wide range of partners. There are several evidences in this direction: an established Center of Competence with an invitation for a new stage of funding; scientific output that already exceeds 200 articles in global databases; in 2022, we were selected as one of the research universities in the country and last but not least - our associate professor is the winner of the prestigious Pythagoras Award for Science in Medicine."
The Chairperson of the Bulgarian Patent Office, Eng. Olya Dimitrova, assessed the partnership between the two institutions as follows: "Medical University - Pleven has consolidated serious positions over the years with its achievements through extensive research-and-development activity, which makes you prepared to seek patent protection. I believe that with what you have, with the capacity and knowledge, MU-Pleven can have a leading role in Europe. The Bulgarian Patent Office undertakes to cover your need for information, guidance and assistance."
The purpose of the memorandum is to support the development of the active educational, research and development activities carried out by Medical University – Pleven, through the competencies of the Patent Office. In accordance with the national policy in the field of industrial property, the promotion, protection and commercialization of all intellectual property obtained as a result of the University's activities, including that created in cooperation with external partner organizations, will be achieved.
The joint activity of Medical University – Pleven and the Patent Office will be carried out through the creation of innovative, interdisciplinary and educational products in the field of industrial property; organizing and conducting symposia, round tables and seminars; exchanging expert-and-consulting competence and experience in creat-
ing a common expert capacity for the needs of both institutions; providing publicly available information in the field of industrial property in order to promote the legal protection of industrial property and innovation activity, as well as conducting internships and training courses for the students of MU-Pleven at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria.
