The Telecommunication Endoscopy Center of MU-Pleven received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons

After a long procedure and meeting all criteria and standards for high-quality training, the Telecommunication Center of MU-Pleven received positive accreditation from the American College of Surgeons. This is a global assessment and certificate for the level of high-tech training of students, residents, doctors and other health professionals. The simulators for simulation training and the preparation of the training teams in various specialties – obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, urology, orthopedics and gastroenterology meet the high evaluation criteria.

The American College of Surgeons is a global professional medical association with more than 90,000 members in 144 countries, founded in 1913 in Chicago, USA. The accreditation by the American College of Surgeons is for 5 years and recognizes the Telecommunication Center as a specialized training institute (Focused Education Institute). This will provide opportunities for conducting high-tech training in joint programs and scientific forums with leading scientists and surgeons from around the world. In this way, the Telecommunication Center will establish itself as an attractive place for highly specialized training in minimally invasive surgery, where medical specialists will receive global certificates for completed courses.

The Telecommunication Center of MU-Pleven was officially opened and has been operating since 2007 under the leadership of Acad. Dr. Grigor Gorchev, MD, DSc. With the upgrading of the material base, the Center has become a specialized unique training and research infrastructure in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery and telemedicine. The center has an experimental operating room for training on living tissue, a virtual room with the latest generation of simulators, and training amphitheater halls equipped with a videoconferencing system with telemedicine and telesurgery capabilities. One of the auditoriums functions as the first 3D studio in Eastern Europe for broadcasting live surgery in 3D format for training needs. To date, over 1,000 medical specialists have completed highly specialized courses at the Telecommunication Center.
