At a meeting of the Rector's Council of the Medical University - Pleven, held on 24th June, 2025, a decision was made to hold a discussion on choosing a name for Academic Hall No. 106. The proposal of the University Management is that it be named „Assoc. Prof. Kuncho Vasilev Ignatov, MD, PhD“ Academic Hall.
Assoc. Prof. Kuncho Vasilev Ignatov, MD, PhD is a prominent physician, scientist and Rector of the Higher Medical Institute – Pleven and Chairman of the Academic Council from 1993 to 2003. From 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pleven General Hospital. Under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kuncho Ignatov as Rector, the second faculty of the Higher Medical Institute – Faculty of Public Health was opened and the accreditation for the transformation of the institute into a university was launched. During the management of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kuncho Ignatov, MD in 1997, the Higher School was the first in the country to introduce medical education entirely in English for foreign students. On 23.03.2006, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kuncho, MD Ignatov was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of the town of Pleven“.
