On June 18, 2025, the Rector of Medical University – Pleven, Prof. Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov, officially introduced the new Academic Leadership Team for the 2025–2029 term.
Continuing in their roles for a second consecutive mandate:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonya Valkova – Vice-Rector for Educational Activities
Prof. Dr. Tsvetelina Valentinova – Vice-Rector for Quality of Education and Accreditation
Newly appointed Vice-Rectors:
Prof. Dr. Mariela Kamburova – Vice-Rector for Research
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zornitsa Gortcheva – Vice-Rector for International and Project Activities
Prof. Dr. Biser Borisov – Vice-Rector for University-Hospital Coordination
Prof. Dimitrov emphasized that digital transformation remains a central challenge across all areas — from introducing new digital tools in education and applying AI and augmented reality, to digitizing scientific databases and creating electronic academic portfolios.
In the international domain, efforts will focus on expanding foreign partnerships and launching new collaborative projects.
In terms of accreditation, the University aims to improve its national ranking and strengthen feedback mechanisms from students to ensure the quality of education.
Under the scope of university-hospital coordination, planned initiatives include:
Scholarships for doctors and nurses completing internships in Emergency Departments
Establishment of an Alumni Office to maintain connections with all MU-Pleven graduates
Strategic planning for a Kidney Transplantation Center at UMHAT “Dr. Georgi Stranski” – Pleven
This new leadership team is set to lead MU-Pleven into a future of innovation, excellence, and international collaboration.
