Medical University – Pleven has been selected as the lead partner in a cross-border project focused on multidisciplinary education through telemedicine, funded by the Interreg Romania–Bulgaria European Programme

The project, titled “Cross-border Multidisciplinary Telemedicine Education Collaboration,” ranked second among 21 approved proposals out of 50 applicants during the June 17, 2025 session of the Interreg VI-A Romania–Bulgaria Programme Committee. It falls under Priority 3: Educated Region, Specific Objective 4.2 – Improving equal access to inclusive and quality education and lifelong learning through enhanced access.
Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the selected projects from Call 3 (which closed on September 9, 2024) have a combined budget of nearly €17 million. They aim to strengthen cross-border cooperation, joint educational initiatives, and inclusive education and lifelong learning services.
As lead partner, MU-Pleven will receive close to €800,000 in funding. Project partners include:

Open Palm Foundation (Bulgaria)
Romanian Association for Cross-Border Transfer and Innovation
Dr. Georgi Stranski University Hospital (Pleven) – as an associated partner
Each partner brings unique expertise and resources vital to the project’s success. Together, we aim to enhance the quality of cross-border medical education in neurosurgery, ENT, and gastroenterology through innovative telemedicine-based training.
