Medical University – Pleven, represented by its Rector Prof. Dr. Dobromir Dimitrov, signed two memoranda of cooperation with prestigious Hungarian higher education institutions – Semmelweis University, Budapest, represented by its Rector Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely, and the University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest, represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Prof. Tibor Bartha. The signing of the agreements took place during the first Bulgarian–Hungarian Rectors’ Forum, organized on the initiative of the Council of Rectors and the Hungarian Rectors’ Association in the town of Samokov in the period January 20–22, 2026. The signed agreements are aimed at establishing a full-fledged partnership in the field of higher education and scientific research, creating a framework for planning and implementing joint activities:
- academic exchange of lecturers and researchers;
- exchange and training of administrative staff;
- joint scientific research, conferences, seminars, and publications in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals;
- joint participation in international projects and funding programs;
- mobility of students and doctoral candidates aimed at developing knowledge, skills, and an intercultural perspective;
- development of virtual and hybrid forms of cooperation and sharing of electronic resources.
The memoranda have a five-year term and lay the foundations for sustainable and long-term academic partnership. Through such strategic agreements, MU – Pleven continues to expand its international presence and to strengthen its position as an active participant in the European educational and research area.
