Social Activities
Social Activities field of study was first established in 1983.
It received accreditation in 2011 with an assessment score of "very good" for six years - until 2017. It recieved further accreditation by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA) in 2017 with a grade of 9.34 for a 6-year period of time – until 2023.
The curriculum is made in compliance with the National Standards and offers profound and specialized knowledge on specialized, pedagogical, general medical and clinical academic subjects. The practical training has a relative share of 53% of the total number of hours and is carried out in modern facilities – social institutions, non-governmental organisations, specialized schools and institutions, specialized medical establishments, etc.
The study in the specialty has an interdisciplinary character for the purpose of preparing the future specialists to become “Social Workers”, whereat, forming professionals, adaptable to the changing conditions, possessing theoretical knowledge, practical skills and competencies for performing individual activities and work in a multi-disciplinary team.
The specialty is oriented towards preparing specialists from an assisting profession, who will perform social-educative, psycho-social, social-pedagogical support of children, people, families, groups and communities in risk.
The graduate having academic-qualification degree of Bachelor for “Social Worker” professional qualification has opportunities for professional development in the following structures: Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, National Social Security Institute, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Justice, Non-governmental organisations, etc., as an applied specialist, performing the following tasks, related to the practical application of the knowledge in the sphere of administrative service: social support, execution of social activities in the field of social cares, social services, social protection and social security, and social defence in the corresponding directorates and departments.
Other fields for professional realization of the graduate students are: multi-purpose hospitals for active treatment, psychiatric hospitals, psychic health centres, directorates and departments at municipal level, re-socializing, consultancy and correction centres for children, local committees for fight against antisocial behaviour of children and juvenile delinquents, structures for social activities at other state institutions.
The specialty graduates can continue their study in a Master’s program in the same professional field.
