Department of Children's Diseases
General Information:The Department of Pediatrics (Children's Diseases) has been part of the structure of the Faculty of Medicine since its founding. After 2002 the Head of this department has been Assoc. Prof. Vanya Nedkova, MD, PhD. The Department of Pediatrics was founded in 1978 by Professor Nikola Mumdzhiev. The teaching staff consists of 3 Associate Professors and 5 Assistant Professors who teach medical students (English-language and Bulgarian-language courses) as well as students from the Faculty of Public Health - Nursing, Midwifery and Ergotherapy with an estimated yearly workload of more than 2500 academic hours. The Department provides training for those postgraduates who specialize in "children's diseases", "general medicine", "emergency medicine" as well as medical experts from the Medical College. 8 PhD dissertations and 2 dissertations for Doctor of Medical Sciences degree have been defended by members of the department. The training of students and specialists is done by lecturers with many years of clinical and academic experience. The training is tailored to the needs of the students and follows the footsteps of leading universities around the world. Emphasis is placed on the practical skills, solving specific clinical tasks, laboratory cases and tests, participation in clinical forums and workshops, etc. |
