General Information

Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine continues the work of the established in 1977 Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology and Parasitology. Founder of the Department was Professor Zhivka Kaneva.

Today, the Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine is structurally separated into two sectors: Sector  of Infectious Diseases and the former Sector  of Epidemiology and Parasitology, which was renamed into Sector of Epidemiology, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine in 1998.  

        


The Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine include nine  full-time academic lecturers: two Professors, two Associated Professors, one Chief Assistant Professors  and four Assistant  Professors.

 

 

 

 Since 1977 the training in Infectious Diseases was conducted consecutively by:

  • In Infectious Diseases: Professor Zhivka Kaneva, Professor Michail Radev, Professor Ivan Dikov (Visiting and guest professors from Medical Academy–Sofia), Professor Hjusnik Bojadjian, Professor Penka Ilieva. At present Bulgarian and English language education is thought and trained by the head of the Department Professor Tzetza Doychinova, Associate Professor Galya Gancheva and three Assistant professors – Dr Christophor Christov, Dr Ivaylo Pakov and Dr Radomir Dobrev, training in practical classes.    
  • In Epidemiology – Professor Evgeni Gabev (visiting professor from Medical Academy – Sofia), Associated Professor Vladislav Novkirishki, Professor Boris Iliev, Associated Professor Dimitar Mitov, at present – Associated Professor Milena Karcheva and Associated Professor Tanya Petkova (Bulgarian and English-learning education). Assistant Professor Dr Kalina Terzieva is teaching in practical classes.
  • In Parasitology – Professor Rayko Todorov, Professor Petar Petrov, Professor Rositza Kurdova (visiting professors from the National Center of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases – Sofia), since 2004 until 2010 – Associate Professor Milena Daskalova and at present Associate professor Ivelin Angelov. Assistant professor Dr Lyudmil Stoyanov is teaching in practical classes.
  • In Tropical Medicine – the teaching is held by all academic staff of the Department.
