Department of Radiology and Physiotherapy

The Department of Radiology and Physiotherapy at Medical University - Pleven was created in 1976. For its material base, the X-ray department of the former Primary District Hospital  "Dr. P.Beshev" (currently University Hospital for Active Treatment "Dr. G. Stransky.") is employed.

Radiology division

Sector "Radiology" is a divisional of the department educational-methodical structure. Its main functions are realized based on Department of Imaging Diagnostic, which in turn is an administrative and territorial structure of the University Hospital "Dr. George Stransky".

Nuclear Medicine and Metabolic Radiotherapy division

In the Nuclear Medicine and Metabolic Radiotherapy division - lecturers are:

  • Assoc. Dr. Miroslav Yulianov Donchev - Head of division
  • Dr. Tatiana Tsarovska - Chief Assistant Professor
  • Dr. Margarita Slavova - Chief Assistant Professor

Academic Staff

The academic staff of the department is actively involved in teaching imaging techniques to Bulgarian-language and English-language training courses.

Collaborators of the department teach and lecture on the following subjects:

  • Course " Imaging Diagnostic " in Faculty "Public Health" - Medical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy
  • Faculty "Health Care" - midwives, nurses
  • Medical College Pleven - X-ray technicians.

 Despite the huge workload and staffing issues, the academic staff of the department works independently and in collaboration with several other departments in both medical diagnostics and research activities. 

Research Work

Under the guidance of Prof. Baldzhiyski, two medical theses to aquire the degree "Candidate of Medical Sciences" were successfully defended:

  1. In 1988, Dr. Miroslav Yulianov Donchev - " Radionuclide diagnostics of mechanical and infected loosening in endoprosthesis hips"
  2. In 1993, Dr. Nachko Iliev Totseva - "Radiologic study of bone maturity in children and adolescents with abnormal height and weight development."

PhD:

  1. By Order № 692 / 19.04.2012 Assistant Tihomir Ventsislavov Andreev enrolled in doctoral studies of individual training to acquire the educational and scientific degree "Doctor" in scientific specialty "Medical Radiology (/ incl. Using radioactive isotopes "/ cipher 03:02:28 / a topic of thesis" Diagnostic capabilities of Multidetektor Spiral Computed Tomography in diseases in aorto-iliac and femuro-popliteal segment "with supervisor Assoc. Prof. Nachko Totseva Iliev, MD for a period of three years with effect from 02.04.2012. In March 2014 Dr. Andreev defend his dissertation work and receive education and scientific degree "doctor".
  1. By Order № 2050 / 10.04.2013, the Assistant Lubomir Ilkov Tsankov enrolled in doctoral studies of individual training to acquire the educational and scientific degree "Doctor" in scientific specialty "Medical Radiology (/ incl. Using radioactive isotopes "/ cipher 03:02:28 / a topic of thesis:" Possibilities of dual energy X-ray osteodensitometry in determining bone mineral density and content of different skeletal segments "with supervisor Prof. Nachko Totseva Iliev, MD, for a period of three years with effect from 30.09.2013.  In September 2017 Tsankov defend his dissertation work and receive education and scientific degree "doctor".
  1. By Order № 763 / 14.04.2014, the Assistant Dr Polya Ljubomirova Krasteva enrolled in doctoral studies of individual training to acquire the educational and scientific degree "Doctor" in scientific specialty "Medical Radiology (/ incl. Using radioactive isotopes "/ cipher 03:02:28 / a topic of thesis" The place of conventional barium enema in modern imaging diagnostic methods for detecting colorectal cancer, "with supervisor Professor. Dr. Nachko Totseva Iliev, MD, for a period of 3 years from 04.02.2014
